Inter-School Festival of Polish Song - hits of the 50s/60s - the final

Year 2009 - 21 May

MFPP (Międzyszkolny Festiwal Polskiej Piosenki - Inter-School Festival of Polish Song) - on 21 May 2009 the final of the competition took place, with the groups that had earlier qualified for it. As usual there was much joy among parents, teachers and guests, and wonderful fun too. After the competition there was a meeting of musicians of the 60s from Nowa Huta. Among them were pioneers of Nowa Huta big beat, from the bands: Biała Gwiazda, Ametysty, Ryszardy.. - click the photo

See the participants of the meeting in the film. Great words of appreciation and thanks for the incredible work put into organising the competition and the meeting go to the Head of Primary School No. 82 - Beata Tomaszewska - and to Krysia Downar and Zofia Wiekierak

The charm of the songs of old The scale and force of the emotions reached their zenith. The range of visual and sonic impressions and experiences crossed the Rubicon. Awakened memories and feelings hard to put into words brought great tears of emotion to the eyes of many of the invited guests. It was a volcanic eruption of feelings and sounds, full of the positive energy and vitality of young organisms. With the power of their youthful spirit and charm the schoolchildren took complete possession of the audience. For almost 30 years I have taken part in a host of artistic reviews and competitions, in the most varied temples of culture. Without undue glorification, I must nevertheless sincerely confess that I have probably never before encountered such a spontaneous, expressive performance of songs as the one served to the listeners by the pupils of Primary School No. 82 in Nowa Huta. Describing this extraordinary concert, one might say that the class groups that performed set in motion and released in themselves remarkable reserves of invention and performing potential worthy of a great jubilee. The 60th anniversary of the founding of Nowa Huta is unquestionably an occasion of enormous weight, and thus an important opportunity to recall the origins of the great historic achievements bound up with the creation of a new town, a new social environment, a new era of civilisation. So it is in the natural order of things that the jubilee celebrations have set in motion a whole range of dynamic, inspiring factors, of which Primary School No. 82 is one proof. The admirable activity and commitment of the teaching staff in staging this event has raised onto a pedestal Beata Tomaszewska - the head of the school - and Mrs Krystyna Downar. To this enterprising duo (with vocal talents of their own) the listeners owe excellent vocal and artistic presentations, not lacking in spectacle, at a truly high level. In the not too distant future lovers of song will be able to cheer the performers on a much wider scale - during the Inter-School Festival "O Nowej to Hucie Piosenka". It is worth stressing that these undertakings have a devoted Friend in the person of the originator of the Library of Polish Song - Waldemar Domański. The all-powerful dominance of songs in English, and not only in English - increasingly practised by our own authors too - is causing a painful neglect of unimaginably vast resources of beautiful, atmospheric and artistically valuable Polish songs, among them ones that lift the national spirit. In this context, the conviction about the missionary role of that institution and its utterly necessary reason for being is beyond dispute. All the more so because the large-scale campaigns to get the people of Kraków, Nowa Huta included, singing are organised precisely under the auspices of the Biblioteka Polskiej Piosenki (Library of Polish Song). Bowing with sincere appreciation to the organisers and performers of the events held so far, one can only hope that many similar high-flying artistic performances and many beautiful songs still lie ahead of us in the course of the jubilee celebrations.

The return of "The Golden Sixties" ?

Year 2009 - February

This is admirable - both the activity and the achievements. "Rozśpiewana Szkoła" (The Singing School) is a phenomenon which, one hopes, can be extended to all schools. It is very reminiscent of the 60s, when not only in Nowa Huta but all over Poland music and hit songs accompanied young people every day. With incredible determination Mrs Krystyna Downar initiates this admirable undertaking. It must be added that she also has a very good climate for it and the approval of the Head of School No. 82, Mrs Beata Tomaszewska, and great help from Mrs Zofia Wiekierak. Everyone takes part in it - children, parents and teachers. To mark the 60th anniversary of Nowa Huta, Primary School No. 82 is preparing an inter-school event, "Śpiewamy przeboje lat 50 i początku 60" (We sing the hits of the 50s and early 60s), to be held on 24.03.2009 at 5 p.m. at the school. The school has been achieving successes in this field for three years now. More information about the events can be found on the school's website, and information and opinions about the events here.., as well as more details here..
