A band that played in student
clubs in Kraków in 1964 - 1968. It was really in this band that
Marek Pawlak began his singing career.
The band was formed in September 1964, together with classmates from Secondary School No. IV in Kraków,
once we had started our university studies. The idea was mine and Staszek's, after we had finished the State Music School (PSM) in Kraków in the violin and piano classes. After intensively
polishing our form on the music of
The Shadows in garage conditions (equipment: a radiogram, guitars with pickups) we got
some decent gear thanks to
Staś Miękinia, who was building sets of amplifiers ("piece" - "stoves") at the time.
Line-up:
1.
Krzysztof Brzegowy g.bas. leader,
2.
Jan Stefański lead g.
3.
Krzysztof Kuś g.rytm.
4.
Stanisław Kozioł dr.
In January 1965 we were engaged by the Jagiellonian University (UJ) club
"Stary Żaczek", hence the band's name (
"The Little Scholars").
At that time the band was joined by
Michał Rymaszewski and Andrzej Becker from the
"Pod Budą" club.
The repertoire was enriched with our own compositions.
In June 1965 we took part in a beat band tournament organised by the
"Szopa" club,
where we took 2nd place behind
"Czarne Perły", and I received a distinction as bass player.
In November 1965 we took part in the Giełda Piosenki (Song Exchange) organised by the
"Pod Gruszą" club,
competing with
"Skaldowie", and took 2nd place
with the song
"Już Zima", music:
M.Rymaszewski, lyrics:
A.Becker. As a result we were invited to record for Polish Radio's Studio Rytm.
In 1966 we played at the
"Korona" sports club, at dance evenings for young people.
From 1967 to June 1968 we played, under the patronage of the AGH branch of the Polish Students' Association (ZSP), at the
"Dom Pieśni i Tańca AGH" on Reymonta Street.
During that time the line-up changed:
1.
Krzysztof Brzegowy g.bas, leader
2.
Edward Rosak g.
3.
Wiesław Karkoszka key.
4.
Zdzisław Nazarko dr.
5.
Bogusław Biełło sax.
6.
Marek Marecki, Marek Pawlak voc.
The band's activity ended as a result of the situation that arose in connection with the
"March Events" of 1968, but that
is a story for another time..
