The band, whose name means "Phantom", was formed in 1965 in the community centre of the Sportowe estate, thanks to the efforts of its then manager, Mrs Barbara Pasowska.
The band's first name was "BARDOWIE II" and its members were:
Jerzy Bojdo - lead guitar,
Józef Bojdo - guitar,
Krzysztof Oktabski - rhythm guitar,
Janusz Pudło - bass guitar,
Jerzy Grzeszczuk - drums
and Grażyna Mazur - vocals.
The band played in this line-up only very briefly; the line-up that lasted until 1969, after the name was changed to "FANTOM", was:
lead guitar - Jerzy Bojdo
rhythm guitar, accordion - Krzysztof Oktabski
bass guitar - Kazimierz Wiecha
drums - Jerzy Grzeszczuk
In the years 1966-1969 the band played, among other places, at dances in the hall of the Technical School of Economics, at the Song and Dance Ensemble ("ZPiT")
on the Górali estate, at various band contests (including at Hala Garaży), at school dances, etc.
It also travelled to play in other towns.
In 1968 the Kraków schools superintendent rewarded the band for its achievements in the field of culture
with a two-week holiday in Zakopane...
In 1969 the band broke up because Krzysztof Oktabski
and Jerzy Grzeszczuk left for military service.
Andrzej Olkuski then moved to "Pięciu Z Nad Wisły" and later
also had a short spell with Dżamble. Kazimierz Wiecha moved to
Nikt Nic Nie Wie and later played in "Ładne Kwiatki".
The band played mainly covers of British bands, with Polish lyrics written by Jerzy and Andrzej Grzeszczuk; there were original songs too.
Of course, there were also songs by
Czerwone Gitary, Niebiesko-Czarni and Czerwono-Czarni, Jacek Lech etc.
After the band broke up, Jerzy Grzeszczuk played for two more years in the army in Warsaw, where he replaced Janusz Stadnik,
the former drummer of JUPITERY.
