The band Donaldy (the name was thought up by
Jan Kaleta) was formed in Kraków by a group of people (mostly students) fascinated by the music of "The Beatles". The band was active from 1961 to 1965, playing in the conference hall of the Geological Enterprise, popularly known at the time as "GEOLOG", where young people met at dance evenings every Saturday and Sunday. It also gave concerts at the "Pod Jaszczurami" club, at the House of Culture in Nowa Huta and at other venues in Kraków.
From 1962, following changes in the line-up, the band's sound changed as well, becoming purely instrumental. The melody line was carried in turn by the lead guitar and the piano (played by a student of the Higher School of Music recruited to the band), while the rhythm section consisted of rhythm guitar, double bass and drums. After they completed their studies (
Szaruga - architecture,
Janusz Schilbach - geodesy,
Halina Dudek - piano class and composition), the band broke up in September 1965 and its members went their separate ways in life.
